Current Events-Behind the Headlines

We are thrilled to invite you to our new class: "Current Events – Behind the Headlines," starting on October 8th! This class will be led by the highly knowledgeable Joseph Varesi, who holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and International Studies, a minor in English from UBC, and a Master of Education from Gonzaga University. With 33 years of teaching experience in social studies and English courses, Joseph brings a wealth of knowledge, particularly in world history and politics.

In this discussion-based class, Joseph will guide us through current world and national issues. Each topic will be introduced with its historical context, followed by an open discussion where you can share your thoughts, insights, and opinions. Among the topics we’ll explore are present conflict areas around the globe and the upcoming BC provincial and US elections.

If you are interested in understanding today’s world events more deeply and engaging in lively discussions with your peers, this class is for you!

Presentation by Vancouver Canadian Writer Colin Thomas

Colin Thomas is a long standing theatre writer. He has worked with The Georgia Straight and has created an online initiative called FRESH SHEET where he publishes his theatre reviews in their entirety on his website FRESH SHEET. Colin has curated local, national, and international arts news and has degrees from UBC and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

Colin's youth scripts have been honoured and performed on national & international stages. He wrote a series of playful poems "The Creature Feature" for Sesame Street.
