Seniors’ Online Support (SOS) Program
Senior’s Online Support is an online mental health peer support platform that offers a convenient, free way for older adults to access mental health support from their peers. The small online group will meet once a week for six weeks between October 28 and December 6, 2024, for hour-long sessions that will be facilitated by two expert senior peer support volunteers. Group members will be able to select and discuss a variety of mental health topics, share coping strategies, learn from each other, and build connections with their peers.
These SOS participants will be contributing to Dr. Theodore D (Teddy) Cosco’s Michael Smith Health Research-funded project entitled “Mental Health and Aging: Development and Implementation of an Online Mental Health Peer-Support Platform for Older Adults” at Simon Fraser University.
This platform is not meant to replace professional mental health treatment; it is an additional support for older adults who are looking for and willing to offer an empathetic ear.
