In the fall of 2016, South Granville Seniors Centre partnered with Marnie Perrin (Project Lead) to collaborate on the Seniors Create Project. The goal of the project was to engage older adults in creative discussions about invisibility in later life. We held a series of creative , energy-filled workshops at several seniors’ centres and residences, collecting stories about older adults’ experiences and concerns.
The touching and inspiring stories collected were developed into a narrative script, with some of the stories filmed by Michael Sider. This script, along with the filmed segments, was performed during the project’s final reading and celebration on March 14th, 2017. The project also received some media attention (See more here and here)!
The project has now entered its second phase, and the rough script have been worked into a performance script. An amazing cast of senior-aged actors has been assembled: Yvonne Adalian, Bernard Cuffling, Richard Newman and Gina Stockdale. This winter, we hope to share this meaningful performance piece with our community, with performance dates to be announced in February.
